Free AI girlfriend: what each plan actually delivers without paying
Every AI girlfriend is advertised as free. The useful question is a different one: how long that free lasts. Here are the eleven AI companion platforms from our ranking ordered by score, and each row says what the plan delivers without paying, whether a card is needed, whether an account is even needed, and on which date we checked it.

No tool matches this filter.
Positions follow the calculated score, with no editorial ordering. A tool that hides its price behind sign-up gets zero on that criterion and the label "Price not public".
How many free messages each one gives
This is the figure that decides whether signing up is worth it, and almost no directory publishes it. When we open the tool and count ourselves, the row says “What we measured” and carries a date. When the figure comes from the vendor’s page, it says “What the site says”.
| Platform | What the free tier gives | Account? | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candy AI | 5 messages in total and 1 blurred image | Yes, no card | Measured on 16 September 2026 |
| Kupid AI | 0 messages without sign-up; unlimited chat after signing up, according to the site | Required | Published by the site |
| CrushOn AI | 100 message credits a month, 225-character replies, history deleted after 7 days | Required | Published by the site |
| SoulFun | 30 days of text messages on sign-up | Required | Published by the site |
| Nomi AI | Free to start, no card; quota not published | Required | Published by the site |
| Swipey AI | Basic chat with the platform’s characters, no card | Required | Published by the site |
| OpenLover AI | Catalogue and chat without paying; albums are VIP | Required | Published by the site |
| Nectar AI, OurDream, HeraHaven, Muah.AI | Free tier mentioned, no figures | Required | No published quota |
Two conclusions come out of that. The first: no AI companion lets you chat without creating an account, not a single one of the eleven. If that is what you are after, the only route is a character chat with no sign-up, and it is in uncensored AI chat. The second: when a platform publishes its quota with figures, as CrushOn does, it is usually because the quota is narrow but real; when it publishes nothing, the quota is whatever the vendor decides on the day you log in.
What never comes with the free tier
The pattern repeats across all eleven: text is the cheap part, images are the expensive part. Character photos, videos, voice calls and private packs always sit behind the paid plan, and on several platforms even there they are paid for separately in tokens or credits. Candy AI includes 100 tokens a month in its Premium and a video from its catalogue cost 29; Kupid gives 100 coins a week; SoulFun charges one coin per message, which turns its US$19.99 plan into a meter.
The practical consequence: if what you want is to chat a lot, look at the plan price. If what you want is images of the character, look at how many credits are included and how much each generation costs, because that is where the budget goes.
How to stretch the free tier without paying
- Start with those that ask for no card. Candy, Nomi, CrushOn, Kupid and Swipey let you create the account without a payment method, so trying commits you to nothing.
- Spend the messages on what you want to know. With five messages, as on Candy, do not check whether it can tell jokes: check whether it remembers what you said two messages earlier, which is what you pay for on these platforms.
- Watch the history. CrushOn deletes yours after seven days of inactivity on the free tier. If the conversation matters, that clause matters more than the number of messages.
- Do not confuse free with uncensored. They are two separate criteria in our score, and there are platforms generous with the free tier that filter, and unfiltered platforms that give nothing away.
And if you want to pay, what the cheapest costs
The cheapest unlimited chat on the list is Candy AI on its annual plan, €47.88 a year, under €4 a month, with 100 monthly tokens included. Next comes CrushOn at US$4.90 a month on the annual plan, which removes the credit limit and the 225-character cut-off. At the other end, Kupid looks the cheapest because it shows its price per week, US$3.43, but that is about US$178 a year, the most expensive in the category read per month. The full ranking carries that price comparison in its first table.
